Summer water safety
Each year,
more than 100 children and youth in Canada drown and many more have close calls. Children under 5 are at the highest risk. To make sure
your kids stay safe on and in the water this summer, always supervise young children closely when they are playing in or near water.
Swimming lessons help, but they do not replace supervision.

Heart conditions

baby in 100 has some kind of congenital heart defect, and many need critical medical attention before they turn 1 year old. Defects generally
block or slow down blood flow in the heart or the blood vessels near the heart, or they make the blood flow through the heart in abnormal

Vitamin D and diabetes
Vitamin
D is known for benefits such as preventing rickets and strengthening bones. Researchers have recently published what they call "the strongest
evidence to date" that vitamin D supplementation lowers the risk of Type 1 diabetes as well. However, some experts, while still in favour
of vitamin D supplementation for children and newborns, are not as enthusiastic about this latest published evidence.
